Patent exposure of Samsung crimpable TV screen
2019.11.12

With the proximity of the new consumer electronics show (CES 2019), foreign media exposed another curlable OLED display technology patent of Samsung. But before that, LG is ready to commercialize the technology.

Different from LG's OLED products in design, Samsung's patent is a horizontal drum scheme. The drum on both sides of the screen mainly provides the mechanical structure support for it. Compared with the vertical installation method, the horizontal type needs to solve the problem of keeping the flexible display flat on the horizontal plane.

To overcome this problem, Samsung provides a central support for the back of the screen. When the display is fully retracted into its supporting tower, the central supporting parts can be arranged neatly behind the two rollers.

From this point of view, Samsung doesn't seem to care whether its concept TV can be completely hidden in the home environment. However, the current Samsung qled TV lineup is more focused on "displaying products in a natural way" (such as picture frame TV).

Of course, one of the great advantages of this technology is that it is convenient to adjust the viewing angle of the screen. In the future, we may be able to use the remote control to make the TV more inclined to its location. Of course, this is just a concept, and it is not likely to be popularized.

More eye-catching is that this screen is likely to realize the conversion of TV between flat or curved surfaces, which is believed to be a quite attractive selling point.
